5200 vs 7200 rpm drives

Jul 10, 2011 10:24

Work and continuous education are data driven, running out of space in less than a year, have to get a Terabyte hard drive. The difference between a 5200 and a 7200 rpm drive is $200. Other than speed are there any advantages for 7200?

It will be used for as an internal hard drive main workhorse, Dell has 1 Terabyte 5200 rpm for $64, but the 7200 RPM runs for $203. Then I will have to figure out which 2 Terabyte external drive to get, half for imaging my main drive the other half for regular data storage back up redundancy.

I don't think "loitl" checks in often on LJ but if you have his email you could try asking him questions like this and he might know.

I know you posted this some time ago.

Please reach out to him with these kind of questions, he may well be able to help and I would love to be able to stay connected with you and be of help.
