So with the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I thought I'd re-read the whole series first. I managed to borrow 6 out of the 7 books from the library as ebooks (pottermore.com editions) so they were the current version. It also meant that (especially for the later tomes) I didn't break my wrists! I read tPoA as my Paper edition over a w ( Read more... )

You got to hang out with Mark! I am a) thrilled to pieces and b) so jealous. We went to his Atlanta event a couple of years ago, but there were 20-30 people there, so there wasn't nearly the level of access. Did y'all have fun? What was the discussion about? Was there eye-cringing fanfic Mark read?

Boo, inconvenience! Yay, refund!

There's a kind of temporal dissonance, re-reading books years later. You've been several people in the meantime. Had any of the fairies [suck-, racism-, etc.] visited?

I'm not sure about terminology. Finance-wise, what's the difference between dole & early retirement?

I'm all for you fixing up your house & being more comfortable; that's also a good investment. Are you sure you want to retire so early, though? Will you have enough to live on for the next several decades? Also, dancing shoes aside [pix? link?], what will you do with yourself?

The dole is unemployment benefits - paid by the government if you are out of work - has a lot of strings attached. Early retirement can be taken after you turn 55 - if you have a private pension plan, which I do. It should pay out just enough to live on. I can always get some part time work to get extra cash. I just don't want to ever sign on again - and given I do have a pension, I probably wouldn't be allowed to. The money you get is dependant on your liquidity!

Harry Potter actually read better as a binge read,
