Buying a house

We accepted a counter-offer on the Tuscan bathroom house,* and this week the seller agreed to the modifications we requested after our home/roof/chimney/sewer inspections. So, we're buying a house!
Our closing date isn't until August 15 because the sellers need time now to buy a house themselves, and both parties will be out of town in the coming

Most descriptions of the bill I've found say that the credit is for buyers of foreclosed homes. There have been so many rounds of amendment that I can't figure it out myself.

I know, right! I just sat down and read the section that matters of the most recent bill. As long as you make (modified adjusted gross income) less than $70K or $140 for married couples, bought the home between April 9, 2008 and April 1, 2009, and it's your first home, you're golden. (If you make more, there's a formula for determining what fraction you get.)

There are a few other caveats too that don't apply to you - like resident aliens don't get it, if you bought the house from a relative...etc.
