New House (no, not the Greg one)

Jul 30, 2007 13:39

The realtor handed Cameron the keys and a file of information, shook her hand, packed her briefcase, smiled a brilliant smile, then took her leave. Honestly, Cameron hardly noticed anything after the handshake. She had her house and she didn't need anything else ( Read more... )

He'd kept his distance during the day. moving furniture and unpacking boxes wasn't his thing. But curiosity drove him to her new house, late in the evening.

He even stopped to pick up Chinese take out. His effort at "house warming". He knocked, using the handle of his cane. Using his fist was way over rated.

Oh dear god, it's late and I need a shower... and other thoughts of a grumbly nature clatter through her head as she makes her way to the door. She's too tired to realize that what she heard was the sound of wood-on-door, or that it was a knock instead of the bell, so when she answers the door, she is a bit surprised to see who's on the other side. The person on the other side will probably notice the sweat-slicked hair, the dust residue and the grimey streaks on her skin.

However, her voice is tired when she speaks, "Wha-? How did you - ? What are you doing here?"

He looks over his shoulder at his bike in the drive way. "I can leave..."

She shakes her head and suddenly, though she's sweaty and a little smelly, there's a smile on her face. Her hand reaches to shove stray hairs off the back of her neck - unsuccessfully - and she asks, "Would you like to come in?" as she pushes the door open and waves a hand toward the entryway.

Cameron wakes with her head still on House's leg and her arm draped over it, her hand resting on the inside of his thigh. She blinks herself more awake and rubs her eyes with her hand as she tilts her head to look up at him. He's sitting up on the one side of her bed, all her pillows piled up behind and around him and he's asleep.

She's not sure exactly what to think of that. He spent the entire night like that and the only reason she could come up with for why was so he wouldn't disturb her. But that was the most un-House like thing to come to mind, so that couldn't possibly be why he was... could it ( ... )

He's been sort of awake for a while. His leg hasn't let him get much sleep in that position. He's already swallowed an extra pill or three. he hasn't actively counted how many he's forced down.

His eyes close and his hand moves up to catch the hair at the back of her neck in his fingers. He says nothing, because to say anything just then would be too revealing. And, he figures, the silence is expected.

She smiles a little and just feels his fingers in her hair. This is the first time she not only doesn't feel the need to say anything, but she has no desire to say anything either. Not because of fear, but because she's not nervous about the silence.

For now.

He's certainly not going to break the silence. He sighs, a soft whoosh of air, as he shifts a little. His leg is throbbing, but he's still not willing to move.
