Since sometime last August I have read the first eleven Spenser novels (~2472pgs paperback) by Robert B Parker and the first six Dresden novels (~2389pgs paperback) by Jim Butcher. The Kindle has taken off much more than I thought it would. Interesting.
Interesting because I have very little interest in getting one myself. Maybe it's because my reading has really dropped off in the last few years. This isn't something I like or am proud of, but I don't think a Kindle would change things. Maybe a large contributing factor is my extremely close proximity to Powell's, where titles that are popular but past their initial release often have cheap, used copies available.
Have I recommended Scott Westerfeld's (yes, that Scott Westerfeld) Uglies? It's YA and a very quick read, so not a lot of time will be lost if you don't like it. If you do--and a lot of folks do, as its NYT Bestseller List status will confirm--there are three more books beyond it. The main character in the first three books is a secondary character in the fourth. Where some books are well-appointed and stylishly served multicourse dinners, this book is a bowl of Froot Loops. But they're good Froot Loops.

You have suggested the Uglies before and I even once had it in my hand at the book store, but couldn't quite make myself buy it. Maybe I will on the Kindle since no one will see me buying it. I really enjoyed the two books of the Succession series by Westerfeld and that is a strong reason to get over my aversion I got from reading the back of the first book. I just wish he would write more stories in the Succession setting.
