Wedding Stuff

When we first decided to get married, Dianna suggested that we should elope, citing the stress of planning a wedding. "How hard can it be?" I foolishly asked. Oh, if only I could go back in time, bitch-slap myself, and go with Dianna to Las Vegas to get married by Elvis.

Again, I don't know if this is typical of Mennonites, but her church LOVES pot-lucks.

Hahahahah! Yes, yes it is. The instrument thing not so much. A lot of them didn't used to allow instruments at all, but Mennonites were known for their whole-congregation four-part harmony singing. Wouldn't surprise me if they've all branched out since then. And they'll love the board game and card deck idea too. In my family it was always Rook because normal cards were considered somewhat disreputable. But that's probably changed too.

Sounds like fun.

I always thought the Queen of Hearts was showing a bit too much nape of the neck.

Yeah, I was rather astonished the first time I went with her to her church and heard the four-part harmony singing. Before that my experience of singing in church was mostly limited to hearing people mumble through the words in Catholic church, growing up.

From what Dianna has said, her church is not that typical of other Mennonite churches that she's been to - it's far more liberal, at least theologically, and probably politically. I don't buy their mythology at all, but overall, I've been rather surprised by how much I like the people there. There's very little of the holier-than-thou attitude and judgement I've come to expect from Christians.

We've never played it, but Dianna has a deck of Rook cards.

Are you available on December 30th to help set up and decorate everything? Other than that, I'll pass your offer onto Dianna - I'm sure there's probably stuff she can use help with.

Your mom's cooking is always welcome! I have no idea what everyone else is bringing, so if she wants to cook, anything she brings will be okay. We've got dessert and beverages covered.
