A GSM phone (which in Japan a cellphone most likely would be) could be made to work in the States. You'd have to put it on a plan with a GSM carrier (Rogers in Canada, or Fido - which Rogers owns - I don't know what your options are like in the US; Bell is TDMA: this bracket doesn't have enough punctuation in it!?!?!?!?!?!) and put your SIM card in the back of the Japanese cell, which would PROBABLY make it work. I've done that trick with Chinese cellphones people brought into the store. If that didn't work you'd have to have the phone unlocked, which could be pricey.

And, of course, you wouldn't be buying the phone on a Japanese plan, you'd be buying the phone outright. So it'd be a lot more money.

But the point is you could do it. I know you didn't ASK per se, but this is what I do. ^_^

Yeah, SIM cards WILL work in a phone that's tri-ban. They'll even work here in China.

Tri-band's less relevant than the phone being GSM. A tri-band phone is jsut a phone running on three possible frequencies, so it gets more coverage. It's possible, for instance, to have a TDMA phone running tri-band, but there won't be a slot for a SIM card.

Aw well, thanks for trying Matt. Sorry you wasted a big chunk of your day searching for it. Did you ask anyone for directions?
Regardless, I hope you enjoyed wandering around Ikebukuro. There are some neat stores and shoppings to be had, as well as various foodings.
Enjoy the rest of your trip and know that I am insanely jealous that I'm not there right now. :)

The Z-gundam movie is out all ready, it came out in like may but it was so popular the extended the release for like three months. Also i see you had to do some editing on the last replay you sent me, lol. Have fun in japan!

I actually saw a poster for it today. Though it's all the way over in しぶや, and as this is my last night in Tokyo, I'd have to try to go elsewhere to find it.
