Well, I think maybe since I have taken up posting again I'll do so now. I just looked at all the comments I got, and for some reason I expected a slightly different reaction than what I got. Apparently people were proud of making the list, which is cool, but others seem to be rather upset at me through the post... odd. And here I was thinking I ( Read more... )

Ian, I think it is safe to say that the only people who are can't complain about their situation are dead. I don't know...maybe I'm just a cynic, but I do not think that it is possible for a person to be completely content with everything in his or her life. But you know...that's the "fun" part of life, I think. Trying to balance everything. But you know...I'm gettins sick and I just got back from the game so I could just be fucked up in my thinking process.

there was that calvin and hobbes comic where calvin was proud because he was content. but then he realized that he wasn't euphoric, and then he wasnt' content any more. he was cruddy.

i think you can be content in all things, and happy in most of them, but then if you think about it you will always find something that isn't the way you want it since life isn't perfect. so then you may start to dwell on the bad things and make yourself unhappy like calvin did.

paul said that he had learned to become "content in all circumstances." and that included beatings and jail time, which i think we would all agree were not great times, unless you're a masochist.
i'm not saying not to think. i guess i'm saying be content, don't dwell on the crappy.

and i forgot what exactly you were asking, so i'm sorry if this is totally off base.
i'm tired...yeah. that's my excuse

Yep, gonna have to side with Rachel on this one. I definately think you can be content in everything. Even in suffering, we should "consider great joy...when we suffer trials" (or something to that effect).

I think you can be content with what you have, what you do, and how you feel, it's just a matter of knowing what it is you actually need and realizing, especially in this society, that we have that and infinately more, and that we are incredibly blessed and have little reason to not be content.

Granted, that's a bit more difficult with emotions, they change much faster and less predictibly than our occupation and out circle of friends. But again, I think we can be emotionally hurting, even, and still know that it's all working to the greater good in a greater plan than we know and thereby be content.

oh, I don't know if that made sense. Perhaps cookie dough at 2am was not a great idea. To sleep I go.

i found your contentment post to be interesting, or perhaps peculiar. regardless it caught my attention. i was particualarly interested in your divisions of contentment. i'm not saying it's an unfair classification but where does family fall, and are school and work in the same catagory, if so how are they weighted? what about pets or drinking? similarly what about aspects of your social life that you have absoulutly no control over, such as a roommate or your computer breaking? are they weighted differently than, say, things you do control, like your conduct? i think that your rating system is trying to fit something very complex into somthing that is not complex enough to hold it, and i think you should keep that in mind when you are evaluating your life.
