My birthday was a good event. I didn't expect anything from it really, and was actually feeling kind of melancholy on the morning of, not wanting to switch ages. At school though, my good friends in school brought me in a cake with candles lit right in the middle of biology class. They asked me if I knew they were going to do it, because apparently

17. what an amazing yesr in my life, often looked at as my "highest year", meaning probably the most ground covered...i truly became someone quite different because of my life experiences that year (1972/73). i realize (often) i am essentially that person now, the one born at 17. it's different for others of course, what year they feel they "woke up" or began becoming themselves, but for me, it was seventeen, and seventeen/fifty i am yet. you, my dear, are miles beyond where i was. you are sure-footed where i stumbled (but intrepidly i stumbled on i did)
