Is it just me or do we sterotype the Gummer?

Stereotype.
Is that even the right word? Proberly not. :S But I feel that whenever I read Strummer, Peryl's, or ANY Meryl related Fan-fiction even, I find that people, Judge, Sterotype, Typecast, Louisa, Mamie, Sometimes Grace, Dons dad, and there are proberly more but I cant remember who they are. For instance Don's, James is it? People seem to ( Read more... )

I agree with you that I see a lot of writers characterizing people the same way, making James the bad guy or Louisa the troubled teen, but it's not to make them look bad or to say that they are that way in real life. I use my writing for fun and to unleash my imagination, which is often not reality. I don't think that other writers are trying to go against the facts. It just makes for an interesting story when there is conflict. As we all pretty much hear it, Meryl has a normal, functioning family, but if we all wrote stories about her real life (which we can't because we don't know a lot about her private life) then it would get kinda boring. I read fan-fiction because I know there are going to be all different takes on Meryl's life and relationships and the same thing with Peryl and other stories. That's the reason why a lot of writers use disclaimers saying that the writing and events were made up by them even if the characters were not. So I guess what I'm saying is that personally, I write whatever ideas come to me. They aren't ( ... )

I agree with meg22591 and also don't forget this is FICTION. We all know that Meryl and Don are still inlove as much now as they always were and that in no way would she ever have started an affair with Pierce and left Don for him. With our stories we are unleaahing our imagination. People want to read our FICTION so we carry on writing it. After all fiction is a story that comes from the writers imagination.

Hey, Im sorry if I came across that way, I throughally understand that its a fiction and everything and that we all need readers but I was just getting fed up of reading the same thing in every chapter that people would write.
Once again Sorry but Thanks for the comment.

You don't need to apologize I was only telling you my take on it. I totally get what you mean about reading the same thing over and over but for the most part I think we try to keep a bit of consistency when writing RPF. Anyway, you're welcome for the comment and don't be sorry :)
