Chapter one
It was pitch black. No light dancing on the edge of his vision. Just sickening contiguous dark.
The pain was pouring, dancing over his nerves and body. His back arched, a hoarse scream ripping from his throat. There were hands holding him down. People yelling. He didn’t care.
He just wanted it to stop.
“Shhhhhhhh” Young pressed a hand to Rush’s forehead, strong and reassuring “Just breathe”
Rush remembered this. Everett could save him. The pain subsides and Rush realizes that most of it was purely his muscles cramping in terror.
They are still there though, watching and Rush could feel them. Any minute now they were going to start again. His body spasms as memories of pain shock through his system. The hands keep pressing and he knows he’s making a wounded keening sound but he can’t seem to make himself stop.
So he pleads with them for mercy, like he’s done so many times before. Pleads for Everett to save him.
Then the hands are shifting and he knows what’s coming next.
He screams.
