It seems at least for the next centuries to come that people will not get beyond beauty, and you are right who weilds the power behind beauty, do it sometimes knowing, and othertimes without the right knowledge that it can come with little value, though it may be valuable to others in another way.... but this of course in a much larger scope treats most decisions that individuals act upon with little moral fiber.....Our mainstream communities large and small are driven by the media in all of it's glorious forms, and it is there that unfortunately here in the west at least most base and discover their set of values....and if one looks beyond this, they see also the government pushing the media in certain directions...painting pictures of what beauty should be, and what one should strive for.....I think one of the hardest things in life, and one of the greatest strifes for anyone is finding their own voice.....People are set on not accepting the things they can't change and in doing so making themselves sick over it.....Your words are

I will admit now that I wrote this in a fairly insensed and hyperbolic mode. I guess I find peoples willingness to lie to make themselves and other happy and to pander each other with happy-cheery lies is a bit immature almost.
I do agree with your opinion that most people form their views based upon a very narrow spectrum of experience and cultural values, if this is correct, it does explain to a large extent why certain values (that are almost arbitrary) are obsessed over by many. Its just a shame that this is the case, all these people who are probably wonderfully well off and not dying of thirst, who have houses and friends and all they could ever want apart from looking good, are so miserable.
ooh you utter pessimist!! aesthetics are really important, they change our moods and things. the average human is way more drawn to stuff if it looks nice and no one wants to be a part of that 'not nice looking' group. nothing wrong with a white lie if it makes someone smile in my opinion. :)
Oh, I don't mind the white lies. Thats part of being human, what bugs me is these peoples massive reliance on them, and the sheer manic way they go about dealing with their appearance issues.
