Explain to me how you're so damn naive

Who: Jesse and Rush
What: Coffee
Where: Downtown.
When: Sunday afternoon.
Rating: G for now.

Jesse waited with deliberate nonchalance outside of the "Downtown," a quaint little coffee shop that he must have passed a hundred times without paying much attention to it. Jesse didn't have a very great appreciation for coffee or any kind of a dependence on it, and consequently he rarely if ever bothered with it. So it was with some degree of dull surprise that Jesse found himself studying a menu mounted to the outside of the establishment. Why am I here? he wondered, gripping his phone tightly in one hand. He could easily have told Rush no, or picked a different activity for them to socialize over. Why coffee? It had sounded so innocent, almost suspiciously so. Was he friends with this kid? Is that why they were meeting for coffee on a Sunday when Jesse could have been anywhere else, maybe with Charlotte or Oliver?

His confusion didn't lessen any when Rush himself appeared, behaving as timidly as ever. Jesse wasn't sure why he was so friendly with someone who clearly had none of the finesse and charisma that made Jesse himself a fairly popular person at McKinley, yet Jesse was vaguely aware that he had an undeniable fondness for the blond. Something made him look forward to their practices together. Jesse vainly tried to clear his head of what had been an energetic but ultimately futile inner dialogue as he greeted Rush with a small and calculated nod.
