Sam stood outside the door to Rachel's house, chewing on his bottom lip. He wasn't... nervous exactly. He barely knew her. He'd heard what others said about her. But that was just a matter of opinion. Sam wasn't going to judge anyone anymore. He couldn't, not when he was busy judging himself all the time. He glanced at his watch. He was exactly two minutes before he needed to be there. He'd left a half hour early, but it had taken him forever to figure out her street. Sometimes, he really hated his dyslexia. It made directions the worse thing in the world.

Knocking, he held his breath and stood back, waiting.

He'd heard her voice a couple times in the two meetings he'd attended. His personal audition with Mr. Schuester had been enough to get him in, but he knew the others were starting to get anxious about him. This duet thing was going to kill him. Too much pressure to be exactly what they wanted. Thankfully Finn would be able to vouch for him if they all decided to lynch him. He hoped it didn't come to that, but...

Two minutes wasn't so bad. He could have been five minutes late, like Finn had been to their first group rehearsal, or not shown up at all, so Rachel was glad that he had managed to make it on-time. Abandoning her shelves of sheet music for the time being, she made her way downstairs to open the door.

"Samuel, come in." She gave him a wide smile as she opened the door, gesturing for him to step inside and follow her up the steps to her room. "My dads are in the study - they don't particularly approve of my having male visitors without their presence - but they've promised to stay out of the way of our rehearsal time. Did you happen to think of any particular songs you'd like to duet? I admittedly don't know your vocal stylings very well, so we'll have to make a judgment call on that before we can decide on a particular piece."

He smiled at Rachel when she opened the door. "Hi," he greeted, trying to ignore the fact she'd used his full name. How people always seemed to know to use it, was beyond him. His teachers didn't even call him that. But he guessed it wasn't a hard thing to figure out when his name was 'Sam.' He internally rolled his eyes at himself. Even in his own head, he was lame. This had to stop and soon!

He stepped inside the house, allowing a moment to glance around. He was curious to see the house she lived in. It was interesting. It was really nice, too.

"Your house is beautiful," he commented, smiling at her. At her question, he shook his head. "No... I have no idea what we should sing. Do you have any ideas? If you gave me a moment, I could probably figure something out."

"Thank you. One of my dad's clients is an interior decorator, so she came and made sure that everything was done right. When I'm on Broadway and filming a Behind the Scenes documentary, it's important that there is a pretty home on display when they reference my childhood, of course." She said it so matter-of-factly, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Rachel gave him a quiet look after a moment - she hadn't expected him to come with anything, really, but she was mildly impressed at his willingness to contribute - before turning to her shelves, pulling out various books of sheet music. "What are you most comfortable with? I admit my repertoire of duets typically comes from musical theatre and classic pop songs, but I know next to nothing about your vocal stylings."
