By the time Blaine's sedatives were stopped, his vital signs were improving and he was left to rouse naturally in his own time. Kurt had barely left his side the whole time, even if his body got to a point where it just had to crash out and he ended up carefully climbing up onto the bed beside Blaine falling asleep beside him. That was where he was when Blaine woke up and analysed his surrounding. There was pain, but nothing like it had been when his stomach felt like he was being stabbed a billion times. He sucked in a small breath as he woken up a little more, stiffly and slowly touching his cheek and nose to feel the oxygen tubes there before moving upwards to his eyes. The hand moved to brush over Kurt's shoulder to his elbow. "Kurt..." he said scratchily, trying to get his boyfriend's attention. Kurt's cologne was comforting and familiar, and right at that moment, something Blaine needed to clutch hold of so he didn't freak out.
Kurt's eyes fluttered open. He had been dozing softly and hadn't even noticed Blaine had finally woken up until he heard his name mumbled hoarsely. Kurt moved carefully so he could twist where he was lying and see Blaine's face, making sure he really was awake. "Oh god. Thank god," he murmured. He sat up and vacated the space he had been lying so Blaine wasn't too restricted. Kurt had lodged himself in there so neatly and carefully so he wasn't touching any of Blaine's injuries but now he was sore and stiff from lying awkwardly. "How are you feeling? How's the pain? You've been asleep so long. They kept you sleeping after the operation when you got a bit of a fever, but it's gone now. You've had fluids and you're not nearly as dehydrated as you were, and they said if you need more pain relief, you just have to call for them when you wake up. The nurses, I mean. They've been really nice..." He was rambling, the words just falling out of him in relief that Blaine was awake and talking. He worked to smooth out the collar of Blaine's hospital gown where it was twisted over a little, his hands shaky. "I love you. I love you so much. I thought I was going to lose you."
"Kurt, I... I..." Blaine felt for Kurt's hand as the words fell from his lips with a shaking hitch to them. "I can't see. I... I can't see..." His fingers clenched around Kurt's wrist then with almost a crushing grip. His words were oddly calm and even, but if he didn't stayed anchored right now, the panic was going to hit him like a tonne of bricks. His eyes were open, but it was just black. He could feel Kurt beside him, hear his voice, smell his cologne, but he couldn't see him.
"What?" Kurt said with strained disbelief. He leant closer to Blaine and swept his hand back and forth in front of Blaine's line of sight, but Blaine didn't blink or flinch. He just kept looking somewhere off to the end of the bed. "N-No, Blaine-- you--" No, he had to stay calm for Blaine and deal with this like a man, not a stupid kid wanting to overreact about everything. He was was near running on empty, but he could do this. "O-Okay, there's no need to panic yet. I'll go and get your doctor, baby. Maybe it's just... you've been... y-you hit your head, it might just be a side effect. Side effects happen all the time. Dad had a lot of those with his heart medicine." Rambling again, and the more he spoke, the more dry his mouth and throat were becoming and that was met by a stange ring in his left ear that wanted to make itself known all of a sudden. His chest tightened, and he feared for a horrible moment he might actually throw up all over Blaine's lap.
Blaine's hold tightened on Kurt's wrist. "No, don't leave me alone!" he screeched, voice rising abruptly and suddenly. He could feel Kurt there and it was keeping him from losing it. He didn't know where he was, he only knew Kurt and if he couldn't feel him, he felt like he was going to lose his grip on reality.
"I-I won't... I won't..." Kurt reassured him in a wavering whisper as he shifted the weight on his feet to wrap both of his hands around Blaine's to keep the contact. He gave it a soft squeeze and then leaned over to kiss the back's of Blaine's fingers, though his eyes were locked on Blaine's. "Blaine... honey... I'm here. C-Can you really not see?" he asked helplessly and cupped his hand under Blaine's chin so he could see his eyes. There didn't seem to be anything wrong with them beyond the fact Blaine wasn't making eye contact.
Blaine gave the tiniest, pained shake of his head. "No," he confirmed through a whimpered gasp.
Kurt hit the nurses' call button but then his hands were back to being protectively cupped around Blaine's. "I've just called for the nurse. I know this is going to sounds stupid, but please, baby, just try to stay calm. I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere. The doctor can come and check you over to see what's going on. You had a really bad hit to the head, okay? Until the doctor says otherwise, do you think we can try to just hold on here together until we know what's happening? I love you. I'm right here."
Blaine nodded, focusing on Kurt's voice as he bit down on his lip and drew in a catching breath. "I love you... Don't leave me. Promise you won't leave me," he begged.
Kurt frowned, and was relieved Blaine couldn't actually see it. Was Blaine's mind honestly jumping to thoughts that he was worried Kurt would leave him in this turned out to be something serious? How could Kurt judge on that? He spent the whole time his dad was sick assuming he was dying and going to leave Kurt all alone in the world. "I promise, with my whole heart. Whatever happens, honey, we're in it together."
"Sing to me," Blaine pleaded in a soft whisper, closing his eyes reflexively not. "Please? Until the nurse comes. I need to keep hearing your voice."
Kurt sat down on the side of the bed beside Blaine with a nod and then realised how stupid it was to answer with a nod and immediately fely guilty. As he started to softly sing Teenage Dream to Blaine, his eyes flicked over to the doors of the room, trying to will the staff to appear to come help Blaine, to reassure him, to do anything. Suddenly, he had a renewed anger for the complete reckless idiots who got into the car and caused this. If anything happened to Blaine he couldn't recover from, Kurt didn't know how the hell he was going to react. For some reason, horrific results of stupidity were never part of the teenage dream, were they?
