"Not a chance there's a prettier girl out there," he said, turning his face back toward her. "You know, I do really appreciate what you did," he continued. "I don't think I've ever seen my parents have this much fun-"
He interlocked their fingers, turning to face her completely now.
"I want to introduce you to them," he said, then. "Show them the genius behind this whole thing."

"And take all the credit away from you?" she offered, mostly because she wasn't sure what else to say.
It was one thing to be introduced to the guests of honor as their party planner, but now that she was here as Cormac's date she wasn't quite sure what that meant.
The ambiguity of their relationship didn't bother her, in fact up until Valentine's Day she preferred it, trying to convince herself that she wasn't ready for anything serious.
This felt serious.

Which might have included him in that statement. He didn't quite know what he was doing, why exactly he had asked her to stick around as his date. He wanted her there, wanted her to stay with him, dance with him, be the girl he could have on his arm to show off.
But why.
Well, that was a question he didn't actually know how to answer, how to let himself answer.
But he be damned if he couldn't get her out of his head, especially with the way she was looking back at him.
