When he allowed himself to think about it, he and Daphne had only known each other for a few months. Four, to be exact. And not even an entire four. No, there was still two more weeks left until they reached May. And yet, somehow, he knew that they would be doing this for a long time- counting the months they were together, because Cormac had no ( Read more... )

There normally wasn't anything that could shake Daphne's confidence, holding her head up high in the toughest times in her four inch heels like nothing in the world could ever bring her down. It was the way that she had been raised, one of the very few valuable lessons that she had learned from her parents. She was a proud women and knew that there was very little that could stand in her way, nothing that she couldn't over come in time and a little bit of quick thinking.

Though, it wasn't every day that her family name was being called out in The Daily Prophet for Death Eater affiliation and then, only a few days later, have a dinner set up to meet her boyfriend's parents ( ... )

This wasn't just any other dinner for Daphne, something that she felt she could easily breeze through. Of course, she had already met The McLaggens but it was in a more professional setting and at a time when her relationship hadn't been quite so serious (when she'd been convincing herself it hadn't been serious at all).

She knew just how close Cormac was to his parents, or at least had a very good idea of it from the way he spoke about them and the stories he told. She didn't just want to avoid making a bad impression and this was one event that her name was not going to carry her through.

The two of them stepped into the expansive foyer of the manor and Daphne offered their butler, Armond, a polite smile as she followed Cormac.

"Daphne Greengrass," she said, not quite sure if girlfriend orfriend was the way that Cormac was going to be introducing her.

"Right," Cormac said, reaching to snake his arm around Daphne's waist. He pushed his fingers gently against her skin as he spared her a glance, a bright grin still tugging at his lips. "Armond, this is Daphne, my girlfriend-"

The butler nodded his head knowingly, offering her his hand.

"Of course- yes, the woman who threw that magnificent anniversary party-" he said, clearly remembering now, pressing a light kiss to her palm. "That was the most fun I had in ages, I'll tell you-"

"Yes, Mum did say you got a bit wild after dinner-" Cormac said, laughing.

"Well, whoever was in charge of those gin fizzes had it out for me, I'll tell you," he said.

It was clear that while Armond was their butler, and had been since before Cormac and Beth were born, he was more like family than anything else. He ran a tight ship with the rest of the staff and took charge of this household in a way neither of his parents ever really wanted to.
