I think it's safe to say that when I'm still interested in something at week 2, it's officially a full fledged fannish obsession. (I apologize if I seem single-minded lately.) More picspam, because I wanted to look at something nice to close out a rather mediocre weekend. I'll admit right now that Mr. Thornton has knocked Colin Firth's Darcy out ( Read more... )

I'll admit right now that Mr. Thornton has knocked Colin Firth's Darcy out of first place of my TV-adaptation-of-literature boyfriends. (Book version of Mr. Darcy remains #1, of course.)
It really is a stiff competition. Thornton does have being a self-made man going for him from the modern point of view.

As Guy of Gisbourn on the new BBC "Robon Hood" series, he likes to glower and wear leather:
I just watched the first episode and wow-ee is he a smoldering bad guy. Robin Hood actually holds his own much better than I had expected.

He reminds me of Goran What's-his-face on ER in this pic
Visnjic.

I have to admit I have irrational hate for Wuthering Heights (which may stem from the fact that it's being sold as a love story) and the modern adaptation Richard was in just proves my gripe with it - what the hell was wrong with Cathy to pick Heatcliff over him? Then again I do think that both Cathy and Heatcliff had mental issue and Cathy in particular could have use some medical attention.

It is tough. Book Darcy wins over book Thornton, if only because I've read P&P a million times by now and Darcy is more eloquent in the text, but in the TV adaptations, Thornton is so much more interesting than Darcy. Granted, I've always heard that N&S was more Thornton-centric so he got much more to work with than Firth (or MacFadyen in the movie) did with Darcy. (And on a completely shallow note, Armitage is much more handsome.)

I'm a bit hesitant to watch. Not just because he plays a bad guy, but more because I don't really want to see him get beaten up and kicked around, which is a given, since he's playing a bad guy. But if the rest of the show is worth watching, I might try to look for it.

I kind of think that all of the Bronte hero/ines had mental issues (Jane Eyre included).
Do not even get me started on her and sleeping on the moor. By that point of the book (which I had to read in college and all my friends were more interested in my disgusted expressions as I read it, than the book itself) I just wished somebody mistook her for a stray dog and shoot her.

I haven't seen Sparkhouse yet, but maybe I'll skip it now.
On the one hand, you're totally pissed at the girl for not seeing how great he is. On the other, there's the opportunity to see Richard as a fumbling sweetheart. And there's a great scene where he gets a make over - his hair at the beginning is horrid - and he tries on fugly suits in a cute montage.

As for Robin Hood he doesn't get beat up by the end of episode 3, which is how far I've watched so far. The production value is amazing and to thier credit they've toned some things down, like the "castles". Robin Hood has his faults but he gets called on them even by his trusty sidekick. He is pretty charming ( ... )

Real leather doesn't squeak, does it? Plus, he looks so damn fine *I* wouldn't care if he squeaked when he walked.

Anyway, you MUST WATCH THE SERIES! I am ready to upload clips to convince you.

He's well oiled, which I bet the hand maids at Nottingham castle fought over who gets to do it.

One thing I forgot to mention - Dawn French is such a smart woman for getting him to play her fiance, husband or whatever.
