Elbow-deep in a truck's butt

Sep 21, 2010 20:06

The truck is pulled into the bay, box removed, the package on the flatbed a baffling maze of pipes and wires and tanks and bottles. It's parked overnight and allowed to warm inside. This isn't for the truck so much as it is for me - she's going to be a lot easier to play with if my hands aren't sticking to frozen metal. She creaks and steams a bit ( Read more... )

Rebuilding the ARFF systems... anonymous September 21 2010, 21:50:36 UTC
Yea, I know....real pain in the ass...I too know every High pressure line and control solenoid in these rigs.....Sam and I rebuilt all of them a few winfly's ago after the Smurf Shack fiasco...remember Sam shot off the dry chem in the heavy shop? I caught hell for weeks from the shop mechanics because of him....

Remember...the solenoids need pressure on the outlet sides to test properly on a bench test......

I remember that incidendt - the dry chem in the VMF - but I didn't realize that you were in there with Sam. Jeebus. We had a similar incident in the Firehouse last week, so I can sympathise. Definitely trying to avoid a repeat performance!

Thanks for the tip about the solenoids - we realized that after a while. Just came about that piece of information by accident. Great to have it confirmed!

I feel your pain! ext_263520 September 21 2010, 22:14:25 UTC
I remember rebuilding all the ARFF/CAFF units with Crash Rescue Sam a few winfly's ago....he fired the dry chem in the heavy shop and douched the place in a white cloud....I had hell to pay with the heavy shop mechanics...

The solenoids need back pressure on the outlet side when testing on a bench or they may not open properly...I thought a bunch were defective because I didn't pressure them up...

Good luck with the rest of the units.....
