Surrender The Night is a good song, it reminds me of Gerard's collaboration with Kyosuke Himuro, Safe And Sound; but Burn Bright! So this is what Ray was referring to when he sent a mysterious tweet back in 2009 going 'City Lights, motherfuckers!' And he was right to be excited, it's glorious.

As for the album as a whole - I remember when Danger Days came out the band were insistent in interviews that it wasn't a concept album; that the lyrics had nothing to do with the fictional Killjoys universe. Conventional Weapons' themes on the other hand, in Boy Division, Gun, Make Room (love the classic Sci-Fi reference there!), seem to fit right in there in some dystopian future. And I realise I haven't yet listened to all ten tracks straight through. I can't wait to do it <3

I think Surrender the Night is a good song but it just doesn't have that MCR punch. I was expecting a huge song from the title and it just didn't hit as hard as I was expecting. It's surprisingly pop-punky, which isn't a bad thing but I think it needed just a small touch of grit. It's a good b-side company to Kill All Your Friends, which is one of my all-time faves. I love the way Surrender ends.

Burn Bright is so great. The pre-chorus and chorus is great and gives me goosebumps, especially the 2nd prechorus ("I'll stop breathing too"). And those heavy hits before the first chorus...BOOM! I also like at the very end how the "who I aaaaaaam" kind of fizzles out at the end. Like it's burning up. Gives me chills and is a perfect end to the CW series. Only thing is I wish it had a longer intro before the lyrics started.

We all should compile our tracklists with what we think the full Conventional Weapons tracklisting would have been and compare.

Livejournal didn't let me comment earlier, and now is bed time and I'm not too lucid but...BURN BRIGHT! I FUCKING LOVE IT!

I like Surrender too, but it might be among my least favorites from CW. Anyway, I looove CW as a whole, so even my least favorites, I like them a lot!

I respect the fact that they thought this wasn't the album they wanted to release, and I enjoyed Danger Days, but personally, this would have been more my thing. I don't consider one better than the other, just different.

Oh but! I made a playlist also including the 4 DD songs that were saved from the scrapping + Black Dragon, and they fit so well (especially Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back -which, let's not forget, was gonna be the name of that scrapped album!) And so I have a 15-songs long album. :D

I really hope we won't have to wait that long for an actual new album, but I'm so glad we got this to entertain us in the meantime.

I really like CW album. I may be objective because I missed them so much and new music always makes me excited, but I don't think the album is bad (although overall I do like DD better), and it wouldn't be successful if they released it back then.

As for the CW#5 I like "Burn Bright" better, because I love the lyrics and as someone already pointed out, I don't mind Gerard singing about kissing boys under city lights (although my favourite lines are They always told me that “You never get to heaven” with a love like yours and Cause if you just stop breathing, I'll stop, stop my heart, I'll stop breathing too). And all my favourite songs from MCR are the ones that give me "Famous Last Words" feeling (like the new "The World Is Ugly" is even more awesome because of lines stop your crying, helpless feeling, dry your eyes and start believing), the one where you don't give up and have a hope ( ... )
