Interview

1. What was your first fandom?

Star Trek. When it premiered in 1966, I had just turned five years old, and I was enthralled. Other fandoms have come and gone, but it all started there.

2. How did you get into writing fanfic/creating fanart?

As soon as I learned how to put pencil to paper, I started writing Trek fanfic. And slash. I didn't know those terms; I was five. But the stories I wrote - simple and childish - were about the adventures of the Starship Enterprise and her crew. And Kirk and Spock were always together, side by side.

I also drew pictures of the planets they visited and the aliens they met. The clearest memory I have is the planet of the Bunny People. Be very grateful someone invented Photoshop. *grin*

3. Is SGA your main squeeze, or are you poly-fandom-ous?

While I watch a number of programs and movies that have active fandoms, SGA remains my focus. I tinker a little with Hawaii Five-O and White Collar, but not enough to consider myself "active."

4. What makes John and Rodney such an inspiring couple for you?

They seem real to me, more real than most fictional characters. They're funny, flawed, goofy men fast approaching middle age and stumbling toward each other in fits and starts. Reluctant heroes at best, they've stepped up to the challenges in their lives shoulder-to-shoulder and found solace and delight in one another. People who find love later in life, when it's least expected and when it's harder to adapt, always inspire me.

5. Who's your favorite, John or Rodney (or both)? How come?

I'm not sure. John, perhaps, because I so enjoy his fond, exasperated viewpoint of Rodney.

6. Where can people find more of your work (McShep or otherwise)?

At my journal.

7. Pick a piece/story of yours that stands out for you. Give us links and tell us why!

Hair. It's important to me for two reasons: It was the first time I'd written SGA and John/Rodney, and I wasn't sure I could pull it off. I'm an editor first and a writer second. That it did so well surprised me. In addition, it was the first thing I'd written since my mother's death. I wasn't sure I had it in me to write anything. I think it took all of forty-five minutes from start to finish. So amazing and such a relief to know I could still write.

8. Finish this sentence: John and Rodney walk into a bar...

…With Teyla and Ronon. (It's all about Team with me.)

9. What question do you wish we'd asked?

Do you write in words or pictures? Answer: both.
