Interview

Jul 15, 2011 11:00

Thanks for everyone's help yesterday.  I really have a direction Ithink now.  My interview questions are under the cut.

1. What was your first fandom?
Discounting all the shows I loved as a kid, my crazy Star Trek “thing” in the 1990s. The toast at my wedding was “Live Long and Prosper”. My husband and I met at a TNG house part in 1988. I read a couple of Star Trek novels early on, particularly one about Deanna and Riker’s first meeting. It was hot. My ex had loaned it to me and he used to write fanfic before computers were available and there was no Internet. I used to laugh a bit at him when he sent them into publishers but he actually probably writes GREAT slash fic now in some online comm. LOL.

2. How did you get into writing fanfic/creating fanart?

Through Pride and Prejudice since I still spend a lot of time reading published sequels. The hottest one I read was originally fanfic so that’s how I found out it even existed online. I discovered fanfic by Bridget Jones links. I found this fun little story a girl had written so I knew the stuff was out there. I never really got into it though until after I saw the last episode of SG-1 and went looking for people who had ended it “better”. I came across a lot of stories that were unfinished and was frustrated so when I started reading one I liked, I sent an email to the author asking her if she was going to keep writing it and we struck up a friendship. That’s how I found my Daniel/Vala fandom. I then wrote a few stories and posted them on Helio2 and a woman contacted me saying she was on LJ and with now 2 “friends” on LJ, I decided to start posting there. At the same time I was making my way through SGA and loving it. I was actually rather ahem aroused by some stuff I was reading on Wraithbait and became a McShep writer shortly afterward. Ironically, my first McShep story started out as a Daniel/Vala but my first friend in fandom said, “This is scaring me since no way would Daniel EVER sound like this…” then it became clear I was actually writing McShep and the rest is well, not quite “history, but at least how I got here.

3. Is SGA your main squeeze, or are you poly-fandom-ous?
I’m polyfandomous. I love SG-1, SGA , Farscape, BSG, and now H50. I only write in the first two though. So far.

4. What makes John and Rodney such an inspiring couple for you?

Well they are sexy as hell. Really. I love their chemistry and the obvious love they have for each other on the show. I love how funny they are and how gentle as well. I just LOVE them. And I LOVE them in fanfic and really got into them on Wraithbait.

And in real life, I think David Hewlett is delicious. I love geeky guys I guess and he’s so hot. I also lust after Joe Flanigan and love how SMART he is. When he talks philosophy, I am a puddle of goo. And he is sex on a stick.

5. Who's your favorite, John or Rodney (or both)? How come?
Rodney. I love his awkwardness and bitchiness and the way he is always “on” intellectually. I also love how much he is willing to sacrifice for others and his bravery in the face of danger-even if he complains all the way through it.

6. Where can people find more of your work (McShep or otherwise)?

Also on Wraithbait, Helio2 and in LJ comms.

7. Pick a piece/story of yours that stands out for you. Give us links and tell us why!

I won a Gatefic award for Fault. It’s a Daniel/Vala piece.

For porn, I suggest Skin Hunger: a multiples fic nominated for a Gatefic this year.

For McShep: my latest work is coming soon and is being illustrated with art by eilidh17 which has me really excited. It’s a piece that uses a non linear narrative that I am really happy with. It deals with Rodney and Jennifer’s relationship through John’s eyes and focuses on her death and the years that follow as John stands by the man he loves…it’s about friendship and grieving and family. I loved Jennifer and I wanted to explore a what if situation that incorporated her canonical death from The Last Man and honoured her as a character instead of conveniently ridding myself of her so I could ship John with Rodney. I also wanted to stand up for her against those McSheppers who trash her as a character since I really love her, and I think she loves Rodney. It may not be MY OTP but it doesn’t mean she has to be vilified. Just killed apparently. LOL. I hope people will read it anyway and I hope they will stick with it and wait from my inevitable happy ending with porn. J

8. Finish this sentence: John and Rodney walk into a bar...
holding hands.

9. What question do you wish we'd asked?

Top or bottom? Which one is John’s favourite in his and Rodney’s relationship?
