Team Interviews: elementalv

Name: elementalv, also known as Tara, TaraSue, and "hey you!"
Team: Peace!

It's belated, but it's done. If anyone has any other questions, feel free to ask.

Let's talk about: elementalv!

1. How long have you been writing fan fiction and/or making fan art and/or whatever else (vids, knitted goods, pornographic gingerbread cookies)?
I've been making up fannish stories since I was 8 years old and desperately in love with Spock. But I've only been writing them down and posting them since December 2002, when I dove head-first into the Buffy fandom.

2. Have you participated or are you participating in any other fandoms?
My fandoms include Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, due South, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Slings & Arrows, Anita Blake and Angel. [thinks] I'm pretty sure those are not the all the fandoms I've written in, because I'm lousy at keeping track. [says she, who hasn't updated her Web site in two years]

3. What fanwork are you most proud of? Or, what is your favourite of your fanworks? (links, please!)
Um...which fandom? In Buffy, I'm most pleased with my Key's Watcher/Dark Haven crossover series (with Anita Blake). The Key's Watcher stories are gen, focusing on Giles and Dawn with a father/daughter dynamic; the Dark Haven stories, set in the same 'verse, are slash, focusing on Giles and Jean-Claude. In CSI, Caldwell is my favorite story. In due South, it's a toss-up between Lost and Soul Surrender (BSG/due South crossover). In SGA, it's a toss-up between Mathematician and Blanket Permission.

4. As far as creative processes go, what type of writer/artist are you? Do you create an outline/find photo references/make maps, etc., or do you jump in and go with the flow?
I shove the entire process to the back burner, then shortly before deadline, I yank it to the front burner and start typing. The process is similar for non-challenge fic, with the main difference being that I'm never sure exactly when the story will be ready to come to the front burner. I tried to use an outline one time for a story, and I ended up getting blocked for two years after that. Once I threw away the outline, I was fine.

5. Where can interested readers/viewers find more of your work? (homepage, LJ fic index, etc.)
My seriously out-of-date Web site is Elemental Vision (hence my LJ handle). The stories that haven't made it over there yet are under the 2bposted tag at my LJ.

6. Do you write original fiction (poetry, screenplays)? Do you create original art (comics, photographs, quilts, wedding cakes)? Care to share?
A friend and I have written a post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel with fantasy elements. We're going through revisions right now, and some day, we'll be shopping it around.

7. How are you so awesome?
You know, I ask myself that on a daily basis, and the answer is always the same: I'm so awesome because I'm myself, come hell or high-water.

Let's talk about: SGA!

8. What do you enjoy most about SGA and/or SGA fandom?
SGA fandom is filled with hella good writers who can produce anything from serious stories to seriously cracked-out fic. Also, SGA fen are incredibly welcoming and generous with their feedback. From a fic writer's perspective, the fandom is a dream.

9. Why do you ship McKay/Sheppard? What draws you to the pairing, what do you like and dislike? Favourite scenes or episodes? Quotes? Screencaps? What other SGA pairings do you ship?
Sheppard and McKay are pretty tight, and most of the time I can see the subtext clearly. What I like, though, is that I can also read them as very good friends and still get a good story out of them. My other favorite pairing is Sheppard/Atlantis, because I think the city completes and grounds Sheppard in a way that no one else ever has.

10. Why did you choose to join Team Peace?
I like the kind of stories that can be told in peace-time. When there's peace, the drama can be quiet, and the writer can explore the subtleties of a relationship.

11. C'mon, you know you wanna! Just a bit of squee about your Match fic? [good example: 'very proud of my second scene' / bad example: 'When Rodney kisses John after they find out the butler did it'.]
My fic is absolutely awesome! I think my allusions to Kafka's The Metamorphosis and its relationship to the group Black Flag provide a compelling portrait of Sheppard during his post-Conversion recovery period.

12. What are your 'tells'? How can a fic of yours be spotted in the wild? (again, go ahead and make origami out of the truth!)
I honestly don't know. You might try checking with malnpudl or isiscolo or even Giles Fan. They've all done hardcore beta work for me, and they're in a better position than I am to dole out clues as to my writing style.
