Interview!

How long have you been creating fan art or writing fan fiction?
I think it's been a few years. I've been dabbling since about 2006, but I never posted anything until 2008.

What drew you into fandom in the first place?
Oddly, TWoP. My friends at work kept talking about Buffy and how it was ending. I had successfully avoided the show until this point. Curiosity got the better of me, though, and I googled recaps and landed at TWoP. I only looked at the forums once, but that one time someone linked to a fanfic (I kinda looked down on fanfic at the time) and I was hooked! I'm happy to admit I was wrong about pretty much everything. Ever.

Best thing about SGA fandom: go!
OMG, the fanworks, whether it's fic, art, vid or what have you. I'm boggled by the high quality and variety and just the complete awesomeness of it!

Are you a fandom monogamist or do you participate in other fandoms? Which ones?
I guess I'd be a serial monogamist. I started with Buffy right when it went off the air. It didn't take long for my corner (Buffy/Giles) to fizzle a bit. At the same time I got into Harry Potter (Snape/Hermione). I never got into writing in either, though. And, well, now I'm here.

Best thing about McKay/Sheppard: go!
They're goofy and nerdy and bad at talking about feelings, but they just work together.

Why did you decide to participate in McShep Match?
I'm having an interesting year and my confidence in doing things is up so I thought I'd take a crack at it.

And how did you choose Team Work/Play?
Honestly? Because danceswithgary commented on my SGA/Muppet Show fic and said nice things about it, lol. I was relieved to find there were still spots on this team instead of being frustrated that Team Work was full. GO TEAM PLAY!

Best thing about your contribution to this year's Match: go! (Remember to keep your answer vague, please!)
Oh, hmmmm. I got to describe in detail something I've been thinking about doing and I think the fic overall ended up being pretty good.

Where can interested readers/viewers find more of your work?
I just uploaded my fic to AO3.

A word to our sponsors?
Keep being awesome and thanks for all the work you've put in on this!

danceswithgary would like to know:

Your user name intrigues me - can you elaborate on it?
It's a character name from The Snow Queen by Joan D Vinge. It was my absolute favorite book from the time I was 13 until, well, probably it still is. I was frantically trying to think of a cool handle when I set up my account and this was the first thing that popped into my head.

What is your favorite McShep piece you've created and why?
I think it will be my Match piece, but if we're not counting those, then the Muppet Show crossover. It was a lot of fun to write and it was certainly a different tone then what I was used to writing. I've been thinking about crossing other shows and books with the Muppet Show and making it a series of sorts.

And pollitt would like to know:

What episode from one of your favorite shows (other than SGA, of course ;) would you love to have seen translated into a SGA episode, and why (or how would the episode have played out--briefly explain)?
The Halloween episode of Buffy where everyone turns into their costumes. I don't even know how they'd explain everyone needing to wear Halloween costumes, but I think the potential for some really funny shenanigans would result.

So why did John and his brother and father fall out of touch? And when did John tell Rodney the story?

So glad you asked! This was originally supposed to be a part of my story, but since I completely changed things, it fell away.

Okay, so here's the deal. John's dad picked up his mom in some small country bumpkin town. He fell in love, married her, bought her lots of stuff, etc. She was always a tomboy and never really fit in with whole glamorous lifestyle Patty had going on. (She called him Patty, which he hated, but tolerated cuz he loved her.) She loved working on old cars and going for long drives and listening to Johnny Cash. She LOVED Johnny Cash and even named John after him. When John was little, she would take him with her to go on the long car rides and sometimes they'd sit at the airfield and watch the planes and listen to Johnny Cash and it was awesome. But then tragedy struck and one day when they're out she gets an allergic reaction to something and he wants to stay to try to help her and she begs him to leave so he can get help and finally he does, but by the time they get back she's dead. So, his dad and brother sort of subconsciously blame him and blames himself and things get tense and then his dad totally sells all his mom's stuff and things just fall apart between them. So John tells Rodney all about it some night on the pier about why he's extra freaked whenever Rodney has a reaction to something and why he hates leaving people behind and even why he's so attached to the poster on his wall.

tl;dr His dad and brother are dicks and he tells Rodney about it one night over beers.
