Interview: mashimero

How long have you been creating fan art or writing fan fiction?
Since Pokemon got really popular in North America, so I guess it's been about 10 years for me (OMG double digits! Was it really that long ago?). I think that I've only started posting things online since 2006 though.

What drew you into fandom in the first place?
My sister was the one that really got me into online fandom. Although ironically, I'm now a much bigger fangirl that she is. One day she told me to read this Gundam Wing fanfic, and then I found FF.net, and spent a good deal reading fanfic for pretty much everything I was interested in. Then I found LiveJournal, and I was hooked *g*

Best thing about SGA fandom: go!
The fans are just wonderful, and I know everyone says this, but it really is the most talented fandom I've ever been a part of.

Are you a fandom monogamist or do you participate in other fandoms? Which ones?
I watch a lot of shows and lurk in a bunch of fandoms but I'm only ever active in one at a time. Obviously, right now that's SGA. I find it really hard to do fanart without really understanding the character(s), studying their facial expressions and so on, and I just don't think I'd be able to do that for all my fandoms.

Best thing about McKay/Sheppard: go!
I love them together because their relationship, even if you view it as a platonic one, works so well. They make each other better people, they work well together, they have fun together. They're best friends, and it's not all about the sex for them, and I think that's a great dynamic to explore and build a romantic relationship from.

Why did you decide to participate in McShep Match?
I had a great time last year, and also, I just love doing challenges :)

And how did you choose Team Work?
When they announced the teams I already had a vague idea of what I wanted to do, and it fit Team Work better.

Best thing about your contribution to this year's Match: go! (Remember to keep your answer vague, please!)
I really like the way the colours turned out!

Where can interested readers/viewers find more of your work?
My website is probably the most comprehensive, but my Dreamwidth is updated more often. My LJ is kind of a mess of tags :P

A word to our sponsors?
Thanks to all the mods and team captains for organizing the match!

Extra question from kisa_hawklin: how was it, running reversebang? Did you have the kind of turnout you were hoping for?
The turnout for sgareversebang FAR EXCEEDED my expectations. Which is really awesome, but then it quickly became obvious how unprepared I was. When I started the comm I was expecting to have to corral my flist to into participating. I'd guessed that there would be like 5 artists, and maybe double that of authors. I wasn't sure how to run the comm, I'd never posted a fic before, so it was pretty hectic. And then there was the whole SNAFU with the claims post, which thankfully turned into a happy accident, but I was panicking for a bit there.

Overall though, it was a good experience. I've definitely learned (and am still learning) about being a proper moderator, and on things I need to fix for future rounds. But all the members and watchers have been amazingly positive, people have come up with some amazing fic/art combos, so I'd say that it was worth it :)
