Recipient: bethbethbeth
Prompt: Severus Snape meets a relative he never knew he had.
Word count: 169
Rating: G
A/N: Warning: Crossover! Sorry, I just had to do it this way; I had no idea who to choose for the relative until I saw your interests and one of them matched up with my most recent obsession. Hope this works for you. The “extinct” line shamelessly stolen from an old New Yorker cartoon.

The automobile had been moving steadily closer through the empty streets of Spinner’s End, and now it had stopped in front of the house. Peering through the window, Snape saw a man climb out of the vehicle and limp toward the house, a half-smile on his face. Snape kept his wand low and jerked open the door, startling the man who would have lost his balance had it not been for his cane.

“Oh! I thought you were extinct.”

Muggle, indeed, and American to boot. Snape scowled. “May I help you ( ... )

Hm, I hadn't thought about NOT knowing the character, but I guess you're right! I love it when my stuff makes sense unintentionally. :-)

!!! I just re-read the drabble, after reading this reply, saying, "Wait, is he actually supposed to be someone??" I had completely missed the header stuff! No, seriously, I thought you'd just invented some random American who felt like he'd be related to Snape, and it worked perfectly just like that.

Yes, it did. I don't own a TV either (although lots of my friendslist is into House - and it still amuses the heck out of me to hear Bertie Wooster with an American accent, but I digress...) and the story still made sense and was appealing.

It's good to know that some people are able to resist the lure of Fox. ;-)

I guess if you enjoyed it without knowing who he is, that's good, and if you know who he is, you get the extra fun of that. It's probably always going to be the case and/or problem with crossovers. *still plans to finish Velvet Goldmine fic with a guest appearance by Lucius Malfoy*

House was my first thought too, oddly enough. Lovely drabble:) Wish there was more *g*

Thanks! I like the idea of Snape finding someone who could magic House's leg back to functioning. Although then the show would go downhill. ;-)

Great! I had to read the comments to find out who it was, and it works beautifully regardless.
I've never seen House, but there are fic authors I respect who muchly enjoy it, so...maybe someday. ;P
Really neat piece!

Hi, somehow I missed your comment, but thanks, glad you liked it!

We started watching House about 2/3 of the way through the first season and got hooked, despite my vow to not add any new shows to our already-saturated schedule. But it's just too good not to watch. Maybe you can rent the DVDs sometime (like we'll be doing for the first season soon).
