For: gwenlliana Prompt: Severus ~ After the first death, there is no other. (From a Dylan Thomas Poem) Word Count: 97 Rating: G
On the edge of the water Severus knelt beside her. Shining hair blew in the wind, catching his robes. The horizon burned red and green across the Thames. After the first, it was never quite the same and he found he could not grieve for each of them. Each one passed into shadows silent and grave. Severus tried to sear each one into his memory, refusing to put the memories into a pensieve or the cold comfort of dreamless sleep. But each one seemed to have the same face, terribly young, surprised and with bright hair.
I'm glad Snape didn't put the deaths into a Pensieve - he is very much a believer in living with the consequences of one's actions, I think, and this is a hard lesson for him to learn.
