Recipient: waterbird Prompt: Peter, Remus and the end of the second war Word count: 100 exact Rating: None
"Tell me why I shouldn't order your execution," Remus said almost conversationally. "No one is going to question the decision of one of the 'Heroes of the Great War,' after all."
"Remus, please--"
"You betrayed Lily and James," Remus continued as if he hadn't heard.
"I saved their son!" Peter protested. "I helped him kill the Dark--to kill V--Voldemort."
"Yes, I know." Once he and Peter had been friends. Once there had been four, and now there were only two.
Or one.
"Yes, I know," he repeated. "That's why I want this over before Harry regains consciousness."

I love this. It reminds me very much of the scene in the Shrieking Shack -- of course Remus knows Harry well enough to know that he'd probably be willing to spare Peter again. I like a less merciful Remus. :)

Dumbledore foreshadowed (with a two-by-four) that Gollum Wormtail would play some beneficial role in the final confrontation, but I didn't want him to get off too easily. This seemed right. Glad you liked it.
