Prompt: Filch and Neville are more alike than people realize. Explain.
Word count: 100
Rating: PG for the darker side of Neville.

Some days, issuing detentions doesn’t seem enough to fit the crime, Neville thinks. Days like today, for instance, catching Reggie Flint in the act of trying to drown Melissa Boot’s cat. The greenhouses will sparkle after Reggie’s cleaned them for a month, yet it doesn’t seem severe enough.

Slipping into the castle dungeons, Neville looks at the old instruments of torture hanging on hooks from the walls: pincers and thumbscrews and wicked cat-o’nine-tails with bits of glass embedded within the falls, and sighs wistfully.

Some days, detentions seem too small for certain crimes. Some days, Neville wishes he could punish.

You know, as a teacher, I think I can definitely sympathize with Neville. There have certainly been days when I've had similar thoughts...

This was one of the prompts I was crossing my fingers I wouldn't get. I really liked what you came up with here. It's very believable. (And the poor kitty!)
