Heart and Soul, for velvetmousenovembersnowJuly 26 2009, 04:10:51 UTC
Recipient: velvetmouse Prompt: No one knew one Horcrux could create another. Be nice if someone told Ginny… Word count: 100 Rating: PG (character death, dark themes)
It would be years before anyone found the vagrant's remains, and longer still before the truth emerged-that more than roosters had been killed that night, and that an ensorcelled first-year had unknowingly stumbled away possessed of more than merely her own soul.
When the dark times returned, and a Dark Lord threatened to rise again, a no-longer-boy hero learned, to his horror, that not every human Horcrux surrenders willingly to Death's embrace-nor does she so easily return from it.
And as he wept over his wife's shell, the Wizarding world learned that even heroes, finally, can be broken.

I used to be fascinated by the whole shadowy Tom-Ginny relationship, but had gotten away from it in recent years. It was kind of nice to revisit it here. ;)
