Recipient: medawyn Prompt: Snape and McGonagall (gen), staff room conversations Word count: 100 Rating: PG, mention of violence against children
"The students are well aware of the penalties for misbehaviour," Snape replied coldly.
McGonagall stood her ground. "Removing fingernails is not an appropriate punishment for passing notes in class!"
"Madame Pomfrey will ensure there is no permanent damage to Miss Patil's hands, Minerva."
An angry flush rose on McGonagall's cheeks at the casual use of her first name. "You are fully aware, Headmaster, that I have only remained at Hogwarts to protect the students."
"If even the Carrows can't teach the children to be obedient, they'll die. Keep that in mind next time you try to intervene." Snape turned away.
Ooooh... *shiver* Snape as Headmaster. Very nicely done! I like the way you've captured the delicate tension between these two as their various roles and relationships collide.

This is a great look at what was going on - the awfulness of having to watch bad things to happen so worse things wouldn't. Great interpretation of the prompt!

Yay! I love fics that look at what the DH year must have been like for my two favorite characters (although why McG didn't figure Snape out, I don't know. He knew all about her and the Order; if he'd really been a DE, she'd have been toast.) Well, anyway. I like their tense dynamic here and the fact that neither will back down.
