That was brilliant! I would never have thought of that and what you did by making Rowena's spirit visible, fantastic image!

Squee!! Thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoyed it! I always thought the HP series needed a Faramir, and Minerva was so underutilized in the final book that I wanted to give her some love.

Wow, thank you! I think I'm constitutionally incapable of answering a prompt in a straightfoward manner. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

This is really, really lovely. I love your characterization of both Tom and McGonagall; they feel just spot-on (this line really gets me: "For what it’s worth, Tom," she said kindly, "I am sorry that I can’t be what you would like me to be." -- and I love the way you show Tom as clearly a master manipulator, but still new enough at it that he's unsure of how far he can go). And the little detailed glimpse of the exam, and the spinets, and the tiny way that Tom's spinet reflects his character -- in case it's not obvious I CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF THE SPINET -- this comment is getting out of hand but really, this ficlet is a little gem, thank you.

Oh squeee!!! I'm go happy you liked it! I was thrilled to get your prompt, because I recently attended a talk on cross-gen romances, and I realized that I've not written nearly enough McGonagall. It was enormous fun brainstorming the most complicated, tricky piece of physical machinery for the NEWTs students, and I admit that the HBP film Riddle was an inspiration. So young, so dangerous, and so angelic looking. Thank you thank you thank you for your kind, thoughtful comments! Thank YOU for such a wonderful prompt and for being such a gracious recipient!

Brilliant and powerful - I love the way Tom sees (and enjoys) his own soul as a seeping, corrupting thing, but both Rowena and McGonagall are far too self-contained and strong for that.

Ooh, Riddle and McGonagall! I love what you did with them here. This was great. :-)

(AAAARGH! My computer restarted in the middle of my writing this comment! Balls! I'll try to recreate it.)

Ooh, this isn't just Minerva fic, it's diadem fic, which you know is a subject near and dear to my heart. :D

I just love this piece. I think you absolutely nailed Tom's voice, and I particularly love the comparisons you draw between Rowena and Minerva (who, after all, could conceivably be a descendant of Scottish Rowena): the fairness, the wisdom, the incorruptibility that so baffles and frightens Tom. It's a plausible backstory, and it makes for a haunting ficlet.

Brava!

This is so smart! And a bit painful, too, but that's expected. Thank you so much!
