Recipient: faris_eirin
Prompt: There's a potion Snape repeatedly failed to brew. He isn't one to give up, though.
Word count: uh, 620 (Is made of fail, here. But remembers with relief that the Cat can’t count)
Rating: G, but with angst

1975:

“Amortentia doesn’t really create love, of course. It is impossible to manufacture or imitate love, although this potion can cause a powerful infatuation . . . “

Slughorn’s somewhat fruity voice meandered on but an idea had just occurred to him, and Severus flipped open his book to jot it down in a margin.

Regulus nudged him and snickered. "That's one potion I bet you'd like to develop, eh? A lot more useful than Levicorpus if a bloke wanted to get lucky."

1976:He was tired of seeing her with Potter, night after night, heads bent together over a book in the library. Before they disappeared together, that is. Severus suspected that they were ( ... )

Thank you! Yes. Canon Snape is so tragic that it just hurts.

I read this twice. It's just as sad the second time as the first. Thanks for sharing! Great drabble.

Thank you! You can just plumb the depths of the tragedy that is canon Snape forever and never come to the end of it, IMO.

Thank you! The Cat was very understanding about the length of this, too.

Canon Snape is just tragedy on a stick, IMO.

Oh... ouch. And now every time I think of Severus and the prophecy, this is what I'll be thinking about. Beautiful.

I'm delighted cats can't count, because what's a few extra words of gut-wrenching Severus?

Why, thank you. A story can't earn any higher tribute, IMO, than to influence how the reader sees canon.

Oh, this is an excellent portrait of Severus, so wrapped up in himself that he doesn't think to go and *talk* to his former friend and the object of his affections, even though he defends her to Regulus. And by November? Ouch.

Yeah, the timing was just awful, from his standpoint. And yes, sad canon Snape is sad, in both senses of the word.

This is really lovely! Heartbreaking - just at his moment of triumph - and it slides so neatly into canon. I love the additions of Regulus and Kreacher as well! Brilliantly done!

Thank you, dear. I'm all about the chronology, I am. And yes, sad canon Snape is very sad. His desperation is so perfectly ugly.

And I found myself feeling sorry for Kreacher here: used so much, by so many people!
