Fits of Television

I'm having such a TV binge.

All caught up now on Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Agents of SHIELD, and Agent Carter. :D The to-read list already includes a mental note to check out

I love Forever, but I've been a Ioan Gruffudd fan since his Hornblower days. He could do nothing but read the phone book and I'd be enthralled.

Never having been into Hornblower, I guess I'm getting my first good look at Mr Gruffudd now.

Nice. :)

I've just seen the first two episodes. Maybe should have watched the movies first? Seemed like they were trying to pack so much setup and background into those two episodes - but the acting was good, and the show has potential for enjoyable oddness. I'm likely to watch some more of it.

Major flashbacks to Angel, though, what with Christian Kane's presence and Cassandra being such a Fred-clone.

I'm watching Hindsight myself, and if you're anything like me you might be ready to ditch it after the first episode, but give it at least 2 eps before you decide. It's not earth-shattering TV or anything, but it's not terrible and I like the emphasis on the female characters (though a lot of what the main character angsts about is men, so that's kind of annoying). If you do watch, I'm curious as to what you think about it.

Yeah, I agree about Hindsight. It could have been a lot worse. It's also got a bit of a femslashy vibe, in that although the main character keeps focusing on her relationships with men, it's her relationship with her best friend that is shown to be the most important one. I'm not sure that the writers have realised the sort of subtext they're giving it.

I liked Galavant, too. I kept thinking I'd seen Tim Omundson before, and then suddenly the penny dropped. It's really getting to be a long time since Xena.

I wouldn't hold out for much great Once Upon a Time in Wonderland fic. If the general standard of fic is anything like that of its parent show, well... Let's just say that there are lots of inexperienced writers in that fandom. (But if you were to read one story in that universe, then Nym's epic Rumpelstiltskin/Belle AU A Bed of Thorns is definitely that one story.)

Doesn't pass that test of having x number of woman-woman conversations not about a man? Hmm, yes - after watching the first episode just now, I can see that.

But I'm inclined to watch more, rather than ditching. There's reasonable acting as well as eye-candy of both sexes. The protagonist's friends and family are intriguingly dysfunctional. And I do enjoy do-over stories, in fanfic and elsewhere.

Oh, and Ioan Gruffudd, yes! I've been fond of him since Hornblower. Jamie Bamber from BSG played his best friend in Hornblower. Lots of nice scenery, including plenty of men in tight breeches, which always works for me. I didn't mind him at all in Forever, although there's very little that's original about the storyline.

I'm continuing with Forever. Three episodes in. - Kind of like Forever Knight meets House M.D.? Rather fun.

In response to your comment up above: so, predicting lots of Hindsight femslash next Yuletide? I've seen the first episode now, and I just love the best friend. Hope they get up to heaps of trouble together! - Is gromance a word? Seeking the female equivalent of bromance here.

Ah, must explain that I haven't seen the parent show. Yet. Never quite got around to watching Once Upon a Time - now I guess I'm easing into it sideways via spin-offs. I'll watch at least one more episode of the Wonderland thing, if only for the best fake rabbit since Roger. :)

The first season of OUAT is pretty good. It has an intriguing backstory that slowly unfolds, fabulous costumes, the pacing is good and of course it has Robert Carlyle, which makes all the other actors try extra hard to try to at least keep up with him. Episode 12, Skin Deep, is easily the best episode they've ever done, again in large part thanks to Robert Carlyle. Nym's epic fic uses this episode as a jumping off point for an AU that takes the backstory in a different direction from the way it went in the show ( ... )

I really liked the way The 100 started out (I adore survival mathematics) but I was most interested in what was going on on The Ark rather than down on Earth, so...not to spoil things completely, but they've moved away from that part of the storyline. I may or may not stay with it as a result.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is a really nice contained single-season story, though I admit part of what held me was an instant girl crush on the Red Queen. Wow.
