I checked out a Unitarian church here recently and it weirded me out because it was basically exactly like an ordinary protestant church except with the Christianity sucked out of it. I don't know what I was expecting, but it still just felt like church. Definitely better than where I had to go as a kid, but only different in small ways.

being that i was also raised catholic, i totally feel how you'd be weirded out going to a church like that. i've gone to pentecostal churches before and everyone's enthusiasm vs the catholics' solemn worship was (and is) still pretty foreign to me.

Participation is quite common in contemporary church settings. I think it was started by the !southern baptists.

Hobbies are good. I wish I remembered what it was like to have free time!
