Poll: Shippiest Season 3 Episode

There are a lot of ways in which an episode of 30 Rock, or really any sitcom, can be "good." It can have a high density of gags, or a plot that is intrinsically funny (a subjective measure, for sure). The A story can cover for a lackluster writers' room plot, or all the subplots can come together into a beautiful whole.

A lot of that is subjective. ( Read more... )

This is the first time that I don't automatically know what my answer is (well, the previous seasons I've known which two I have to decide between). And for the most part, that's because I don't know season 3 eps as well as 1 & 2.

I'm finding myself thinking of these episodes in terms of the fanfic they inspired (Reunion, Retreat, and Apollo, specifically). So once I can rewatch and think about them as canon, I'll come back and vote.

Kinda off-topic, but for the season 1-2 reruns on Comedy Central, I found myself rushing home from work, ignoring my clogged DVR and watching those episodes every night, despite having seen them a million times already. But after Believe in the Stars (one of my favorite eps overall), I haven't been watching. That makes me sad.

I've never really understood the love for "Believe in the Stars." But I think S3 stacks up very well against the first two seasons, with the very important exception that the last two or three episodes ("Natural Order"/"Mamma Mia"/"Kidney Now") don't pack nearly the punch that the ending trilogies of the first two seasons do. The Milton Greene plot is sort of sweet but not particularly funny or dramatic.
