Seeing as the other stuff I read won't be out for another week or so...let's move onto the latest Naruto chapter, chapter 485.
That chapter felt incredibly short for some reason. It felt like nothing happened, or that something did happen, but it was so small that the other 3/4 of the chapter was just stall tactics to create a "cliffhanger".
Anyone get deja-vu to the clash that Naruto and Sasuke had at the Valley of the End?
I liked Kakashi's resolve...Sakura's, too. Though Sakura couldn't go through with it, she still was prepared to the fact that Sasuke had changed...that he was no longer a friend to them or Konohagakure.
And yet, Naruto...
Between the dumb flashbacks of the previous chapter, and all the talk Naruto did in this chapter, I have a feeling this is gonna be Pain all over again. The "third option".
Again, more characters displaying just how naive they are about the world. First, it was watching Tamaki being naive in Ouran HSHC, now Naruto...
So what if he does manage to get through to Sasuke? What does he think will happen? Sasuke has committed crimes against Konoha, and killed Danzo. He feels no guilt or remorse for his crimes, which is different from characters like Ken in Digimon Zero Two and Jay/Junior in Machine Robo Rescue.
They were tempted and taken over by darkness, but were brought back and honestly felt bad about what they had done.
That's not apparent in Sasuke. Taking things at face value, he admitted that he even enjoyed killing Danzo. He's beyond just plain revenge...this is complete darkness. Everyone's been noticing it (Karin, Kakashi, etc)...that there's something different about him.
Sasuke was always a bastard. I thought there might be hope for his character way back during the search for Tsunade, when he was concerned for Naruto's safety...but that's gone. He was ready to kill Sakura, and would have, if Naruto hadn't saved her.
During their first clash at the Valley of the End, he was unable to kill Naruto...but this time, he would be.
And yet, Naruto is living in that dream world where everything works out in the end.
What does he think will happen should he maybe manage to bring Sasuke out of the darkness? Does he think they'll go back to being friends and a team like nothing happened?
At best, Sasuke would have his chakra bound and be confined to shinobi prison. That's at best. Most missing nin in the Naruto verse have a death sentence over their heads for their crimes.
We know the "third option"...it's no mystery. But it's a bit annoying.
I like the "happily ever after" endings for stories, but only in the situations where it makes sense.
Not to mention that, the second Sasuke wavers (if he does...Naruto has his work cut out for him if he's going with the third option), Madara/Tobi might show up and take his Sharingan. I mean, the guy was trying to get Danzo's Sharingan...and we haven't seen him since. Like he's just going to sit back and stay silent?
No...he's waiting for a chance to get a strong Sharingan so he can fulfill his desires.
Though, all these stall tactics to draw out the chapters is extremely annoying...this chapter could have been so much better, and yet, we're made to wait again for the real action and resolutions.
The chapter beforehand advertised "Naruto's decision!". But there was no "decision" that we were clearly given. There are hints, and with how the series has progressed so far, it's easy to tell what the decision is, but...why all the stalling?
We know what the "decision", the "third choice" is...all the stall tactics and supposed "cliffhangers" isn't necessary.
Chapter rating:
3 out of 5
Better than some of the other chapters since it's actually headed towards a conclusion of the Sasuke vs Naruto bit (I hope), but feels too short due to stall tactics, flashbacks, and information that we've been told over and over again.
