Death of a Network

Apparently water main broke on the third floor of Wean and flooded a machine room, taking down the entire SCS network for the day. Since grad students' home directories are on /afs/cs.cmu.edu, we couldn't even login to our office computers, much less use them for anything. At this point I have e-mail access again, but not much else. Even www.cs.

Yes, but my question is, how cool is Great Big Sea? They rock.

I love Great Big Sea. I've been listening to "Rant and Roar" for large portions of the past few days.

It reminded me of that joke which ended: "The provost replied to the physics chair, why can't you be more like the math department? They only want pencils, paper, and a wastebasket. And the philosophy department doesn't even need the wastebasket."

Somehow I think such a thing might be a blessing for my productivitiy.
