chapter five is now done! a little shorter than the previous chapter but it is still over a page long. enjoy!
The Dark Storm
Meanwhile, near the oceanside just outside the village of Ceilant, Lawk, Ryu, and Arisella stood under a large tree, out of the storm that had came out of nowhere out of the ocean. Lawk and Ryu had their backs outward, with Arisella sandwiched between them. She had complained for the past ten minutes that she was cold and hungry until the two men decided to use their bodies to prevent the cold from getting to her. Now all she complained about was being hungry. All three of them were hungry but it seemed to Arisella that she was the 'most hungry' of the three.
At least they were richer than they were before the storm hit. They had just gotten done with their latest assignment when the storm hit. They hadn't gotten to shelter in time so they ducked under the tree to try and weather out the storm. They were at least ten miles away from the village and neither of them wanted to risk venturing out in the storm to get to the village, despite them being cold and hungry.
After complaining for what seemed like the hundredth time, Ryu finally had gotten tired of hearing Arisella's complaints. “If you are so hungry, then why don't you go out in the storm and go to the village for some food,” he said to her in an irate tone of voice.
That shut her up. She shot a glare over at him that withered into a pout. “I might get blown away!” she protested.
He sighed and shook his head. “No you won't. You'll just get extremely wet...and tired. If you don't want to get kicked out from under this tree, then I suggest you stop complaining and use all of the energy you are using to talk to stay warm. Trust me, you aren't the only one that is hungry. Both me and Lawk are as hungry as you are and we busted our asses as much as you did today to get the assignment done before this damned storm hit.”
Arisella gave him a shocked look but didn't say anything else. Instead, she turned her attention away from them and down at the ground. Lawk sighed and shifted his position slightly. “I think I may have something that may ease this tension between us.”
“Sexual or just the normal tension?” Ryu asked Lawk in a teasing tone of voice. It was no secret that Lawk was gay but he normally didn't shout it at all. He usually whispered it and only to his partner for the short period of time that he actually kept partners. Ryu and Arisella didn't mind it just as long as Lawk kept up his part of the assignments that they usually got.
Lawk gave him a look but didn't answer the question. Instead, he cleared his throat and carefully pulled out a small piece of paper from inside of weather-proof jacket. “It seems like there is a high-priced assignment in the Nephe forest. Details are to be given when the party has arrived.” He paused for a few moments. “It seems that more than three people are required for this. So, we best be on our toes if we are going to take this assignment.”
Arisella gave him a look that said 'why-do-you-think-we-will-take-it' at Law. “So...how much is the rewards.”
“A hundred gold hawk bits-I believe it is to be divided up between the people involved in the assignment,” Lawk responded, his face holding a little bit of pride in it.
Arisella's eyes widened slightly. “A HUNDRED?!” she yelled and winced as the tree seemed to come alive as a flock of crows departed the branches, cawing down at the trio as they flew up into the stormy sky. “Sorry,” she said sheepishly. “It's just that...”
“Yeah, I know, we haven't had one that high ever,” Ryu said, sighing slightly. “I think we should take it. The most we can get is 10 gold hawk bits and the least is one. At least they are paying in gold hawk bits. The past few assignments we have been getting have been paying in silver hawk bits and the very few that we took on as side assignments have been copper hawk bits. Thankfully those are far and few inbetween the silver hawk bit assignments.”
Lawk nodded his head and looked at the two of them with a hint of curiosity on his face. “So, shall we take it? I mean, it is gold hawk bits for crying out loud. That can hopefully get us out of debt and hopefully start up our own services after that is taken care of. Then we will be in charge of what assignments we want to take instead of taking any that is thrown our way.”
Both Arisella and Ryu nodded their heads. “So, when do we have to be there?” Arisella asked Lawk in a chipper tone of voice. It seemed that she had finally forgotten that she was cold and hungry.
Lawk chuckled at her enthusiasm. “In three days. If we start now then we can get there in probably two and a half.” Without another word, the three of them ventured away from the tree and headed towards the village to get some food before they departed away from the coast. Unbeknownst to them, a large six-eyed crow was staring down at them from the tree that they were under scant seconds ago. After cawing once, the crow took off and headed in the direction of the forest, not caring if it got wet.
