This entry has started to attract weird commenters. They seem to be posting random snippets of text, and their user pages consist of more semi-auto-generated text. Overall, they seem like they should be spam. But they aren't trying to sell me anything. So what are they?

My guess is that post got linked to somewhere by someone (durh!) and has attracted a flock of drive-bys who post random bits of semicoherent text in an effort to form a "comment history" that will enable them to avoid spam-screening bots.

but I could just be paranoid.

Their usernames link back to their blogs, which seem to be full of autogenerated text and spam.

Curse you, Andrey Markov!

Could be internet stalker/trolls of the person who made the comment.

Personally, I'd delete them, and lock the post down to no more comments.

I used to get those several times a day on my highest-Google-hit blog entry. Some of them did contain links. There's no way these things aren't spam-related, but I've no idea how; panacea's explanation seems better than anything I've come up with.

Eventually I disabled commenting on that entry. It's a shame, but nobody had said anything coherent on that thread for months anyway.
