Memory is a funny thing. My memory for connecting people's names and faces is beyond abysmal. My memory for performing tasks that are not already a habit is terrible. My memory even for imortant scientific things is shotty at best

I have the exact opposite problem when it comes to stuff I read or watched 15+ years ago. The main plot points and the key characters are all I frequently remember. In fact, that's all I recall of one of my favorite books of all-time, Dan Simmons's Hyperion, because I last read it 17 years ago. How can I even be sure that it's still one of my all-time favorite books? Worse, what if I go back and reread it only to discover that I don't enjoy it anywhere as much today as I did when I was 23. Ugh.
