This guy comes into the restaurant a lot. His name is Andy and I think he works with the homeless, although perhaps he himself is a relatively classy homeless man. I always see him buying bread for that lady who wanders barefoot up and down the block screaming at people, along with other assorted characters

I would go with the "mystical-quest-to-save-the-world" thing. It sounds a bit less creepy than the other option. In any case, it would seem that you are having a much more interesting summer than I, by far. =)

Ehhhhh, it is mostly work interspersed with moments that don't make me want to die. How is your summer going?

When you put it that way, my summer is pretty much going the same as yours. Although instead of interesting people at work, I get to deal with interesting dogs.
