It's actually Die Hard 4. :( I first saw the preview before Grindhouse and thought for a minute that it was a fake trailer, like some of the others. if only...

I've seen PotC 3 - it was ok, though #1 was still better. I seriously hope they don't do a PotC 4 though.

I've avoided #1 on your list, haven't the motivation to see #2, and plan to skip #4-7.

Are there any *new* movies coming out this summer worth seeing?

I know that PotC was originally meant to be a trilogy. They made the third movie at the same time as the second.

Spiderman 3 was "supposed" to be the last but who knows. They may do another a few years down the line.

In a lot of cases, movie makers are planning trilogies if the first one goes well. Two isn't enough anymore. It has to be 3. Mind you, "trilogy" sounds a lot better than "sequel".

I don't mind movies that are planned to be trilogies or series from the beginning (LotR, Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc). What irks me are the movies that do well and the writers and producers try to milk the idea for as much as its worth with sequels and "sequels of sequels" - those are usually the crappy movies and I wish they would focus their energy on original ideas.
