Chapter 6
It was Sunday, 6 days after Kasumi agreed with Yuya that she would be his pseudo girlfriend. Kasumi was at the library, studying for an English test that her class were going to have. However, she was slightly bored by it, and was walking through each of the aisles of books.
In one of them, she saw Ryosuke. She smiled cheekily and crept up to him. "Hello, Ryosuke!" she cried out. He stopped pulling out the book he had his hand on, and looked at her. He smiled. "Hey," he said, then looked around. "It's the library, you know..."
She opened her mouth then closed it. "Oh... right."
He turned back to the shelf and pulled the book out. He read the back and sighed before he pushed it back into its place. She watched him curiously. "What are you doing?" she asked.
"Looking for a book to read."
He looked at her. "What about you?"
She puffed out her cheeks and held up a piece of paper. "Studying for a test," she said in a high pitched voice.
He smiled crookedly. "A test..."
"Ne, what types of books do you like?"
He looked at her. "Eh? Maa... romance/comedy books are okay... So are detective ones or horror... Sometimes manga too..."
She looked at the books around her. "Romance/comedy..." she breathed. She put her finger to her mouth, thinking. Ryosuke watched her intently. Suddenly, she shot her head up, which made him jump slightly.
"I got it!" she exclaimed in her quietest voice possible. "There's this really good one." She grabbed a hold of his hand.
He blushed. "Eh, Kasumi--"
"Here," she said, not hearing him. "Follow me."
She pulled him towards the librarian's desk at the front of the library. She smiled at the librarian and said, "Umm... do you know if you have the book called 'Stay'?"
The librarian looked at her. "Of course we do."
Ryosuke nudged her. "What's 'Stay'?" he whispered.
"You don't know?" Kasumi said, shocked. "'Stay' is a really good romance story for teens and young adults. It became a big hit with us high schoolers..." she trailed off and looked at him.
"I'm sure you'll like it. It's about this 15 year old girl who lives in a village in country Japan. She lives a simple life, until one day her father goes on a fishing trip and never comes back. So the girl decides to go to the city to find him. In the city, she finds this really popular guy who helps her find her dad. Then, they slowly fall in love..."
She sighed. "It made me cry so much."
Ryosuke laughed. "I guess it must be good."
The librarian said, "It's in the fifth aisle. We've got a lot of copies of it, since it was such a big book."
The two of them nodded. "Thank you," Kasumi said before she pulled Ryosuke away.
When they got to the fifth aisle, the saw Yuya, Hikaru and Daiki sitting on the floor. Yuya was the furthest away from them, Daiki was leaning on the shelf at their left and Hikaru was opposite him. The three of them looked up at them.
Kasumi looked at Yuya. "Takaki..." she gasped.
"Oi, what about us?" Hikaru shouted softly.
"Yeah!" Daiki added.
Ryosuke looked at the three older guys. "Who's Takaki?" he whispered.
"The guy with the orange hair." Kasumi explained.
"Ah."
"Who's that?" Daiki asked.
"And why are you holding hands?" Hikaru added.
Kasumi looked down at their hands and immediately let go. Ryosuke looked away. Yuya was looking at the shelf on his left and was playing with a book.
"So...?" Daiki said.
Ryosuke looked at them. He bowed. "I'm Yamada Ryosuke."
"And how are you related to Kasumi-chan?" Hikaru asked.
Ryosuke looked at him and straightened up. Kasumi-chan? he thought. "Maa... I'm her childhood friend."
The three friends looked at each other. Yuya looked at Kasumi. "Really?" he said.
Kasumi nodded. Yuya's eyes went back to the shelves. "Well, Yamada, did you know that Tanaka is my girlfriend?"
Ryosuke looked at him, then at Kasumi. "Oh, really? Oh, okay..." he said, trying to cover up his thoughts.
Kasumi walked into the aisle and stepped over Hikaru. She bent down and started looking for 'Stay'.
"What are you doing?" Daiki asked, looking at her.
"Looking for a book." she replied bluntly.
He looked at her. "What book?"
"'Stay'..." she murmured.
"'Stay'?!" Hikaru cried out. "I want to read that."
Then, Kasumi found it. She grinned and pulled it out. On the cover was the title and a photo of three people: two of them, a girl and a guy were on one side of the road, while an older man was on the other side. She stood up and walked over to Ryosuke. She pouted slightly, and handed it to him. "Here you go," she smiled softly.
Suddenly, he felt his heart flutter. "Th-thanks."
"No problem."
She looked at her watch and gasped. "Yabai!" she yelped. "Sorry," she looked at him, turned around and bowed to the others. "I've got to go."
The four guys watched her leave. Daiki stood up, then Hikaru did as well. "I guess we've got to go, huh?" the latter sighed. They left, leaving Yuya and Ryosuke.
Yuya stood up and walked to Ryosuke, standing next to him. "Do you like her?" he asked.
"Yeah."
"Do you think you could win her over?"
Ryosuke looked at him and nodded. "Yeah."
Yuya smirked. "Okay." He walked away, with Ryosuke staring down at the book.
