original sin

Up for comment here.  What are your thoughts on the broad idea of original sin?  (using that term 'cause I'm lapsed Catholic...use whatever terminology works for you)  The idea that we are somehow born or exist unworthy/sinful/imperfect/whathaveyou.  I'll weigh in in the comments at some point probably, but I'd be curious to hear what y'all have to ( Read more... )

I'm not really sure what a perfect existence would entail, so original sin always seems sort of silly. What are we comparing ourselves to? What is a perfect way of life? I don't think there is one, and therefore I don't think we should consider ourselves "marked for imperfection or unworthiness". If perfection is impossible, and is actually undefinable, then I don't see the point in running around feeling crappy for not achieving it. Just be the best you can be, try your hardest not to be a complete bastard, and I think you'll be doing fine.
