Not such a good week after all

May 01, 2009 11:16

After waking up on Wednesday with my foot screaming with pain it's pretty much gone into a nose dive from there. I lost count of the mg of Ibuprofen I took to hold the pain at bay. From the ball of my foot all the way down to my heel up the Achilles tendon to my hamstring. No weight bearing at all. Lord ( Read more... )

i'm glad you're doing the stretching and massage. does your trainer help you with that too? the bath probably gave you the heat you need also.

does the swimming hurt? it sounds good cause it's non weight bearing, but i wonder if you tense up your feet when you kick.

i hope you can get back on track soon. try not to worry so much.

Gerri, no, I have a PT as well. She was the one that suggested the self-massage. I wonder if you could answer a question for me though ... this whole thing is being caused by my sciatic nerve and really tight dura on my left side. Currently the pain is concentrated in the foot and I'm wondering if I need to continue NOT putting any weight on it OR will stretching it (ie flexing and putting weight on it) actually help? If you don't feel you want to comment I fully understand. I just can't figure out if I risk further injury by adding weight or is the damage already done, y'know?

i was never an ortho pt, but my gut says you should weight bear. is the pt doing dural stretches? that's a little controversial. usually it's the piriformis muscle in your butt that squeezes the sciatic nerve.

No the pt is actually doing CST on the dura. I have a major imbalance on my leftside from old injuries from riding (jumps falling on me, horses stepping on me etc.) in my teens. She feels I likely have old disc damage that aggravates both the nerve and the dura. I do yoga stretches along with specific hamstring/calf ones to try and keep everything loose on that side. Of course running and biking a lot doesn't help. ;)

Injuries are So frustrating. Can you do swimming still or no stress on the tendons at all?

What kind of HRM did you end up getting?

Quick recovery wishes.

I swam yesterday and it felt very good. Moving it seems to help so that's what I'm doing. Still can't quite tolerate full weight yet so running is out but I hope to get out to try my new shoes/pedals today.

I'm almost embarrassed to say which HRM I got ... it was a Costco bargain, Timex but it has everything I need and all for $60. Basically half the cost of any of the others I was thinking of. Now. I have yet to test it out for ease of use so the jury is still hanging. ;)

Thanks for your kind words Debb!

Yes, unfortunately staying healthy is as important as the training when one is of ..erm.. "a certain age".
