Wow! I am so glad that you updated! I have been waiting and waiting :) It sounds amazing there... I think that is someplace I'd love to visit, or maybe even study abroad. I always heard that it was something totally different from the world that I know, the moment you step off of the plane, and I'm sure it is in some respetcs, but it seems like there are similarities too. I love travelling around the world and seeing that really we are all the same

Meaghan - I can't even begin to tell you how jealous of you I am. Your independent study project sounds so awesome and it will be so incredible for you to do some hard-core research on your own. Please please please share your project with us when you're done!
I want lots and lots of updates or emails or both - even if they are just random stories or parables that you are hearing :). If you are still in India when the semester is over, staying there or something, please let me know. I'm thinking about an awesome and intense after-graduation trip somewhere I haven't been and India is definitely on the list.
Oh, India!cheryldeutschJanuary 27 2006, 05:21:04 UTC

I can't wait to read more about your adventures and experiences! Keep the great descriptions coming. One organization you should check out in case you haven't heard of them is the Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA), which is a huge movement in India (although I'm not sure if they're big in your state). Check them out at www.sewa.org... they are amazing! I'm actually in the process of applying for a fellowship to go and work with them next year, so I'm really interested to hear if you have any experience with them. Hope you are having a wonderful time.
it is so nice to read about your experiences and for once understand what you are going through. i want to say, beware of the myth professor , he has a way to getting to people despite his initially joyful impression. also, i was wondering why you feel that you are missing some understanding by living in a middle class family. Its just as worthwhile as living with a poor family. they may have some things in common with you in terms of physical comfort, but don't let that lead you to over looking how very much is different! (don't worry, you'll get to understand poverty as soon as your college loans pile up!). i'm excited to hear about your reserach. you will defanitely have to let me read it. and your research from nicaragua too. oh and i would hardly agree that biking is safer. i thought the same at first, but after driving with my sister, i realized that they are just fatalistic so ride on the defensive! love, audrey
