It sounds like you are having an amazing time. What kinds of things did you read to the kids? Where do they get their books? Did they know how to read at all yet (since they are 6 and 7?) That sounds like an experiecne of a lifetime. I hope that Managua gets better, and don't miss us too much-- it's so much more fulfilling where you are . I love you <3

hey kait!

maciel and david had workbooks from their school. they each had one for spanish and one for math. they get their books from some spanish ngo that works in the community - that is where all the kids get all there school supplies - from their backpack, to paper, to materials, and pens. and, yah, they kind of knew how to read - the 7 year old was awesome... and the 6 year old was starting to get it - i was incredibly impressed by how smart they are!!

oh, and i dont miss you all too much - it is a healthy miss - a i am so happy to be here...and at the same time so happy to have the people in my life that i do miss. :)

love you!

Wow, it sounds like you had some pretty amazing times. Try not to let the homesickness get to you and just appreciate the time you have to experience a different way of life. Coming home is the suckiest part so really enjoy it while you're there. I actually stayed on a hacienda when I went to Puerto Rico in high school. It was in the mountains and basically a coffee plantation. Quite wonderful atmosphere.
