If you're reading this and are a man, I ask you this. It's not a favor I'm asking for. Keep this in mind. It's not a challenge. Some of you will say you know this. But this goes further than just knowing. it's not just about saying "Oh, I know this!". It's about DOING. It's about lifestyle. It's about every day words and actions. It's about ( Read more... )

It's weird - I read this and I think "But... isn't this just common sense?" - and it's sad that unfortunately, it's not.

There shouldn't have to be situations where people need to intervene and stand up for others who are afraid to - but there are. And folks need to start doing that. It's not "chivalry" or "sexism" - it's not even about "being a man". To even imply that is sexist. It's about being a good person, and that's not a choice, it's a responsibility.

Until we can build a world where fear is as redundant as the appendix, people will need to stand up for those who can't or won't, because of fear. Not because it's "noble" or "redeeming" - because it's just the right thing to do, and everyone has an obligation to do it.

This is especially still a huge issue in our industry, and while I have always tried to be a good example and stand up for people before, it's got to keep happening.

It does, so very much. It's so ingrained, people don't even think while they speak, don't realize what they're saying.

That's the saddest - and scariest - part of it all. :(
