"Do you ever worry about human isolation?" I asked her like it was no big deal, a heavy question for the day before holiday break. I'm not talking just about my own loneliness, but about the part of being human that makes having deep relationships with other people painful ( Read more... )

I have been really freaked out lately, by my own isolation from other people and by isolation in a larger sense. By that, I mean isolation that keeps us from acting or working to change things, make things better. Tell me about the kinds of activism you're doing. I feel like I am so disconnected from activist circles here in Michigan.

I worry about it a lot. My mind turns more and more to the existential crises the older I get. I wish I had the guts to casually ask someone if they worry about human isolation (maybe I will now); I just let it tick away inside. It gets stronger as the seasons change.

How could I find this article you read? I am fascinated. I have always had freezing, white tipped, hands and feet that cannot supply their own warmth. Always blamed the circulation disorder that runs in my family.

I'd also love a peek at this essay when it's finished, if I'm allowed.

Star Sara,

It gets so much stronger as the seasons change, especially as we come into winter. Maybe I'm sensitive, or an empath or something; but it distresses me so much that I have neighbors right on my block that do not have enough, that I know this and still do nothing.

I found the article by Google-ing social isolation one night when I was up with insomnia stressing about the state of contemporary feminism.

If I ever finish my essay, you will get one of the first peeks.

Katie
